Botanical name ficus elastic, the rubber tree is a species of plant in the fig genus. Native to north-east India, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, China and Malaysia, the rubber plant is now naturalized in Sri Lanka, the West Indies and the US state of Florida. The rubber tree gets its name from the sap that it produces that turns into a low-quality rubber. The natural rubber tree is a very popular indoor plant, however it is very sensitive and does not like being moved. Our artificial rubber tree is an ideal alternative as it is neither sensitive nor poisonous to pets!
