Reviews & Questions

Here's Everything You Need To Know

What options are there?

The alocasia plant measures approximately 80cm tall and 50cm wide. It comes pre-potted into a small black planter measuring 15cm wide and 13cm tall.

Will you be able to tell it’s not real?

This stunning tropical plant does an excellent job of mirroring its natural counterpart with waxy leaves, prominent cream markings and tall stems which fade to a lighter green at the base. It’s also manufactured using strong high quality materials that allow for exceptional realism and a long lasting finish.

Where should you put it?

Your alocasia is designed for indoor use as it is not UV protected. The natural alocasia amazonica would need a warm, humid environment to survive so popping it in your conservatory or a warmer spot in your home would further add to its realism. Alternatively, use it in your hallway, bedroom, or in any dull corner to add an instant splash of tropical colour.

For more information, read our UV guide here.

When the artificial alocasia arrives, this is what you need to do:

  1. Unpack
  2. Your alocasia will arrive in securely packed in a strong cardboard box. The foliage and pot may be wrapped in additional packaging to keep them safe, which should be recycled if possible. If your order arrives damaged, please let us know as soon as possible.

  3. Arrange
  4. Once you’ve unpacked your new plant, you’ll need to spend a few minutes adjusting the foliage to achieve the best look. To do this, simply bend out each frond and leaf until you’re happy with the overall appearance. You may find that some of the leaves have slight creases from being tightly packed. This is normal and can be corrected by running your hands over the foliage and any remaining creases will drop out over the next few days. For more information on how to arrange your artificial plants, watch our step by step video guide here.

  5. Re-pot
  6. Finally, although the alocasia comes pre-potted, we suggest replanting it into a larger more attractive pot. This will really help to pull off the look and allow your new plant to blend effortlessly into your existing décor. You may want to start by filling your new pot with some soil or stones to give your plant some extra height. Then pop your alocasia into your new planter while in its existing starter pot and top with either soil, sand or decorative stones. For further guidance, watch our potting video guide here.

What about ongoing maintenance?

The natural alocasia plant prefers a warm and humid environment similar to where it hails in the Philippine Islands, making it rather unrealistic to grow in the typical UK home. With the artificial alocasia, there’s no need to worry about light, humidity, water or re-potting and you can still enjoy the same stunning appearance.

Your alocasia is as low maintenance as it gets and only needs a few minutes spent a week to keep it dust-free. Read our cleaning guide here for more information.

Did you know?

The alocasia plant is more commonly named ‘African mask’ despite the fact that it doesn’t originate from Africa. Instead, it gets its name due to its resemblance to the traditional hand carved ceremonial masks.
