Reviews & Questions

Here's Everything You Need To Know

What options are there?

The begonia maculata stands at 39cm tall and 29cm wide making it ideal for desktops and smaller spaces in your home. It comes pre-potted in a small black pot which measures 11cm wide and 10cm tall.

Will you be able to tell it’s not real?

This attractive faux houseplant is designed to look as close to its natural counterpart as possible with eye-catching white spots, deep green oval-shaped leaves and the iconic red undersides. It’s made using durable top quality plastic which allows for high detail and a long lifespan. The only difference between this replica and its natural sibling is the lack of time and effort needed to keep it looking amazing.

Where should you use it?

At 35cm tall, the begonia maculata would make an ideal desktop plant. It would also be perfect for a smaller space in your home whether that’s a window sill, shelf, bedside table or on the floor among other plants.

This plant is not UV protected and therefore we suggest using it indoors only. For more information, read our UV guide here.

When the begonia maculata arrives, this is what you need to do:

  1. Unpack
  2. Your order will arrive in a sturdy cardboard box and may be wrapped in extra packaging to protect it during transit. Remove your plant and recycle the packaging if possible.

If by any chance your artificial plant arrives damaged, please let us know as soon as possible.

  3. Arrange
  4. When you unbox your order, the foliage on your begonia may be standing upright and slightly bunched together which is normal. As with most faux plants, you will need to spend a couple a minutes adjusting the foliage until you’re happy with its appearance.

Simply bend out each frond and straighten any creases with your hands until your plant looks similar to our photo above. Any remaining creases will drop out over the next week.

  5. Re-pot
  6. After arranging your faux plant, we recommend re-potting it into a more decorative pot to finish off the look. We suggest choosing a pot slightly larger than the starter pot it comes in.

To re-pot your begonia maculata, pop it into your new pot (don’t attempt to remove it from the starter pot) and fill around the edges with sand, soil or stones.

What about on-going maintenance?

If you’ve already owned a natural begonia maculata, you’ll know they can be a bit of a challenge. The soil should be damp at all times, but not too wet and the air should be humid. They’re also toxic to pets and require regular fertilising.

When it comes to our artificial begonia maculata, you’ll only need to spend a minute or two a week to dust and keep it clean. Other than that, it’s totally maintenance free!

For more information, read our cleaning guide here.

Did you know?

The begonia maculata is also knows as a cane-stemmed or trout begonia. It originates from Brazil and produces small white flowers during the winter.
