Reviews & Questions

Here's Everything You Need To Know

What options are there?

The button fern measures approximately 17cm tall and 28cm wide. It comes pre-potted in a terracotta starter pot measuring 16.5cm (Ø) x 12cm (h).

Will you be able to tell it’s not real?

This stylish foliage bush features deep green spear shaped leaves, which become smaller as the fronds come to an end, and comes topped with real moss for the most authentic look. The fronds can also be bent into a more natural position for added realism.

This faux plant is manufactured using premium plastic which allows for intricate detail and gives the plant a long lasting finish.

Where should you put it?

The fern pellaea bush would naturally grow in rockeries among other foliage; however it would also make for an attractive houseplant used alone in a decorative pot, stand or hanging planter. Use it in your bedroom, lounge, conservatory or garden for additional texture and greenery. It’s designed for outdoor use and therefore won’t lose its colour when exposed to sunlight.

When the fern pellaea bush arrives, this is what you need to do:

  1. Unpack
  2. When your fern arrives, open the box and recycle the packaging where possible.

In the unlikely case that your bush has arrived damaged, please let us know as soon as possible.

  3. Arrange
  4. Your fern pellaea may arrive with its foliage pointing upright. There’s no need to worry as this is normal and only a result of it being packed securely in its box. To correct this, bend out each frond into a natural arch until you’re happy with its appearance. You can use our image as a guide or find an image of a natural fern to help.

For more information, watch our handy video guide here.

  5. Re-pot
  6. This attractive fauxliage bush comes pre-potted in a small terracotta pot. We call this the starter pot or travel pot as it’s designed to hold the plant together during transit and provide it with a sturdy base. We do not recommend attempting to remove it from this pot as it may damage the fern. We do however, strongly recommend that you re-pot it into a larger more stylish pot to improve the look and help it to blend into your décor. We have a range of premium plastic planters available here.

To re-pot your fern pellaea, place the fern and its starter pot into your new larger pot, fill with earth, sand or stones and top with either more soil or decorative stones.

For further guidance, watch our potting guide here.

What about ongoing maintenance?

The fern pallaea would naturally require a humid environment with acidic well drained soil and bright indirect sunlight. Instead, you can use your artificial fern pallaea anywhere within your home or garden with no need for water or fertiliser, knowing that it will still look as good as the day it arrived.

The only thing you need to do is quickly dust it when using it indoors. Doing so will remove any build-up of dust and dirt and keep it looking natural.

Find out how to clean your artificial plants by reading our how to guide here.

Did you know?

The fern pellaea or ‘Pellaea rotundifolia’ was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit. Also known as ‘Cliffbrake’ the pellaea is a genus of ferns that primarily grow in rocky habitats including canyons and slopes in America, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
