How to craft a DIY faux Christmas wreath

Picture the scene; it’s Christmas Eve, the presents are under the tree, the stockings are up, and the snow outside is settling… so what's missing? A gorgeous DIY Christmas wreath!

Get creative and make your very own DIY artificial Christmas wreath this December with our easy to follow step by step guide.

How to Craft a DIY Faux Christmas Wreath

The most popular do-it-yourself wreath is based on a wireframe, sturdy and easy to add things to.

We'll be using a wireframe purchased from Amazon and foliage offcuts from office samples.

What You'll Need

Before you begin, lay out your equipment and foliage so it's ready and waiting. To construct a wire wreath you will need the following:

  • 1x wreath wireframe

  • Scissors

  • Gloves

  • A base greenery / foliage of choice (cedar, fern or eucalyptus works well)

  • Extra greenery, foliage, decoration (ivy, holly, berries and pinecones are traditional favourites)

  • Floral wire

Making Your Wreath

Pop on your gloves and get your wire wreath frame.

Step 1: Add your base foliage

Start by taking a piece of your base foliage and weaving it through and around the wireframe.

Keep it as tight as you can to ensure that it remains neat. Don't worry if you can't get it as tight as you'd like because you can use the floral wire later down the line to fully secure it.

Repeat these steps until the whole wireframe is covered! If the foliage remains out of the position you want it or just generally looks a bit too messy then use the scissors to trim bits off.

Now that the base is all covered, it’s time to add a little flair. 💃

Step 2: Create decoration bundles

Placing your now foliage-covered base aside, grab your chosen greenery and decorations and group them nearly together. Groups can be suitable pairings (e.g. holly and berries) or the same foliage for easy access.

Group your foliage with your extra decorations and tie them with the wire into a bundle. Repeat this process to create around 10 bundles. You may need slightly more or less depending on the size of frame / bundles you have

Step 3: Attach decorations to your wreath

Now you have your base and bundles it's time to assemble your wreath. To do this, use the floral wire to tie your bundles to your base foliage securely. Now simply reach for your old friend the pruning shears and give the whole thing a bit of a haircut if anything is out of line and voila, one DIY Christmas wreath complete!

Secure bundles to base foliage using floral wire and trim as needed. Hang and adjust wild sprigs.
